Pomodoro
Walking Stick No. 0009
This walking stick with a chrome orb on top is dedicated to the artist sculptor that created the bronze contraption I first saw as I entered the Vatican in Rome. I was taken very much by surprise my mind was confused about its significance and why it was there in Vatican courtyard. This bronze sculpture depicts two interlocked spheres. Entitled Sphere within Sphere, The sculpture was designed for the Vatican and there is a similar version. also displayed in Dublin, Tel Aviv, and the Italian Parliament. This complex work of art, composed of a sphere growing inside another sphere, can be read as a symbol of the emergence of a new world from the old.
The knob on the top of this walking stick connects to this and is named after the sculptures creator Arnaldo Pomodoro a well-known Italian artist. Pomodoro’s works are notable for their use of geometric shapes that often relate to themes of self-destruction and recreation.
A Sphere within a Sphere at the Vatican
This Pomodoro stick has been around for a while the chrome on the orb is fading and a copper brassy look is coming through can see in image below
The timber colour is no longer the natural timber it's been coloured and coated with an oil varnish. It's one of the first crooked walking stick I made. So I guess it's a used second hand stick and priced accordingly. Still by all accounts a very interesting stick.
