Uraeus (pronounced  oow-reye-us) and is the raised cobra found on the top of true Egyptian pharaoh masks or crowns.  Uraeusis the symbol  for  the  goddess  Wadjet , considered  the protector of all of Lower Egypt. In fact the pharaoh was recognized only by wearing the Uraeus, which conveyed legitimacy to the ruler.
